Minutes for October were approved with corrections on the $47K for Annual Appeal, March 18 for Fr. Faricy visit, and spelling of St. Vincent de Paul.

Updates on various committees were provided as below:

  • Finance (update from Gail) - The recent Crab Feed brought in $7000 ; this almost made up for the shortfall of $8000 in the 2004 Archdiocesan Annual Appeal.

    • $53K has been pledged for Annual Appeal, need $16.3K more for total of $69.3K.
    • Want to promote stock donation through bulletin and announcement. Few families have done it last year so we should send a letter to them.
    • Last Sunday collection was $7000; up from last year but still lower than 2-3 years ago
    • Next year Annual Appeal is $66K.
    • Plumbing work is completed and paid.
    • Estate Planning Seminar "Get Your House in Order" by Tom Poeschl. Flyer had 8 people attended. Everyone had different questions. Charity trust was presented. There may be a bequest from a parishioner.

  • Buildings & Grounds (update from Al) -
    • Bought a removable cover for the sewer clean out. Need to install it.
    • Replaced majority of the batteries and light bulbs in the emergency exit signs and lights
    • Fire department re-inspection occurred Nov 18 and we passed for this year.

    • St. Luke is not required to have smoke alarms but we want to install them.

    • Fr. Jack noted that the chairs in back classroom were blocking the fire exit and exit has to be cleared.
    • Microphone repair - left message to Bob Fitzgerald.
    • Refinish pews - no action
    • Ventilation improvement - Dcn. Mar is working on it
    • Dcn. Paul presented a directive from the Archdiocese regarding overnight parking on church property. Church is responsible but we are not insured. May need signs at both entrances to notify that St. Luke is not responsible

  • Catholic Formation (update from Kevin) -
    • Norma came and talked about "Simbang Gabi - A Novena of Advent Masses" at St. Gregory Church from Dec 15-23. Each night has different theme.

    • St. Luke is hosting the Dec 19 night to provide music, readers, Eucharistic ministers, food, etc.

    • Received $500 seed money from our parish and other donation for food

    • The Novena is not a Filipino event but a parish event; a gift of the Filipino community.

    • Announce in bulletin on weekend of Dec 3-4.
    • Advent Reflections with Fr. Faricy on Dec 10 and March 18, 10am-4pm

    • Theme of Advent is "Mary and Healing"

    • Fr. Faricy will stay after for the 5pm Mass
    • Advent Reflections will be on Thursday evening on Dec 1, 15 and 22, and Communal Celebration on Dec 22 after reflection.

    • Ellen Six will host the night of reconciliation and penance. Eleanor Lindquist will be the reflector on Dec 15.

    • Faith Formation had a recap on the Companion Series with biblical figures of Peter and Paul. Group may present a video on Preparation of Advent and a second video on reconciliation.
    • On Nov 22, there was a conference in Modesto on Retreat for Priest, for those who needed spiritual support. About 20 parishioners attended. One priest did a sharing of his calling.
  • Liturgy (Update by Dcn. Paul) - Eleanor Lindquist, a new parishioner, was from St. Dominic and is a good reflector.

  • Parish Life (update from JoAnn) -
    • Parish Directory is almost finished. Peg and Margaret did a good job getting all the photos and captions together. Photo shoot scheduled again on the second week in December. We would have the directory sometime after Christmas.
    • Ministry Sunday on Nov 13 had a small crowd at the 9am, more active crowd at the 10:30am, and a small one at the 5pm. The Legion of Mary got some sign-ups. Most groups got about 1-2 people signing up.

    • Name tags were out there but people were not interested.

    • Booth tables and flower/balloon decoration were nice. Picture was taken for next year.

    • For next time, we may want to set up for Saturday 5pm Mass and pass out postcard for sharing time and talent so parishioners can drop them in the collection baskets. The registration card has a list of activities.
    • Boy Scouts requested hall for their dinner on Friday, Jan 13 at 5-9pm.
    • Crab Feast to be headed by Marv Crockett and a meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov 29. They may move event back to after February or maybe March 18. Committee chairperson to be set and people to sign up for committees.
    • "Out of Harm's Way" is a workshop for parents on methods for child sexual abuse prevention on Wednesday, Nov 30.
    • All parish staff are mandated to complete a 2-hr online training course on a sexual harassment.

  • Public Affairs (update from Peg) - § Ad in Daily Journal at $85/wk is too much. Currently, we use Foster City Islander at $34/mon.

  • Social Justice (update from John) -
    • Walk for Life is on Saturday, Jan 21, 2006. We will have a sign-up sheet and order a bus for the event. Need to figure out when to start advertising.
    • Life Legal Defense Fund dinner had a presentation from Terry Schiavo's parents.

  • Update on Old Business
    • We want to reduce the number of items to focus on

    • Spiritual development - we have spiritual development activities already but may not be using them fully, such as Faith Formation, Men & Women bible study, Reflections during Advent. Maybe the timing is bad. Some churches have teachings after Mass on Sundays since people are there already.
    • We will not move the Parish Council meeting.

  • Update on New Business
    • Liturgy for Christmas with 6 Masses (Saturday at 4pm, 6pm and 10:30pm, Sunday at 7:30am, 9am and 10:30am)

    • Saturday at 4pm is the Children's Mass and 10:30pm is the Youth's Mass. May have refreshment of cookies and hot chocolate after Mass.

    • Can we do some caroling on Sunday before Mass starts?
